This November for the first time, Myakka will be exhibiting at the Ideal Home Show at Christmas. This is a brand new show for Christmas and is based on the Ideal Home show which is held every year in March. The show, which is held at Earls Court in London and runs from the 16th – 20th November and includes a late nigh shopping evening on Thursday 17th.

The Ideal Home Show at Christmas will have five zones, including Ideal Interiors, (which is where we will be based on stand number 1G36), Ideal Home Improvements, Ideal shopping, Ideal Women and Ideal Food & Housewares. Other highlights at the show include the biggest indoor Christmas tree which will stand at over 50ft and a 1001 tree maze including Christmas trees. There will also be a great selection of celebrities including Laurence Llewelyn- Bowen, Gino D’Acampo, Suzi Perry and Oli Smith as well as a whole host of other celebrities and celebrity chefs.

On the stand we will be running a competition to give away a set of our Contemporary Nest of Tables every day of the show. There will also be exclusive show discounts and a great selection of smaller furniture, gifts and home accessories to take home.

India Update – New furniture and textiles for spring 2012

Georgie and Alexandra have just returned from India following a very successful trip to catch up with our existing suppliers and to meet potential new suppliers.

During their visit, a ceremony took place with our furniture manufacturer to honour the new production unit that has just been completed. This new unit will be dedicated to mostly Myakka finishing stage. This will mean that the finishing will now be completed to a much higher standard as the facilities are purpose built to create a dust free environment and the quality can be easily monitored.

As part of the celebrations, Georgie and Alexandra each planted a Sheesham tree and rode camel’s back to the main factory. Georgie also had the important role of handing out sweets to all the workers who have taken a part in the production of the new unit.

Whilst at the factory the pair signed of over 20 new lines that will arrive in time for the spring catalogue. Most of these lines will be added to our flagship Mallani range but there will also be some new lines in the ever popular and constantly growing Hathi range.

During the visit Georgie and Alexandra met with our textile supplier who we met for the first time earlier in the year. More new lines were signed off including wall hangings, cushions, throws and footstools. These will also arrive ready to be featured in the spring catalogue.

SKSN School is always the highlight of any visit of the biannual trip. We are now the sponsors of the Vocational Training Centre (VTC). This means that every girl leaving SKSN School joins the VTC to give them all basic sewing skills. Those who excel will be able to use this skill to earn a living.

This Friday we are off to the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, Somerset Business Awards. We have been shortlisted for both the Business of the Year Awards (5-50 employees) and the Marketing and Promotion Award, (results to follow on Monday, fingers crossed!)

Myakka moves up and out!

As the Myakka team keeps growing, space in the office was becoming a premium.  Only a month ago there were up to twelve people working in an office that would comfortably sit eight! Something big had to be done so we took the decision to move upstairs into the old, derelict offices that were last used around 12 years ago.

After a renovation project which started in May, we made the big move up to our new offices on Monday 3rd October.    And this certainly was a big task as we upgraded all our systems at the same time, so the IT guys were working hard to sort everything out as well as train us on a new phone system!

So we're all still getting used to having so much space! We haven’t got our new desks yet so we are making use of some Mallani Dining Tables from the clearance section until the new office furniture arrives.  There's also a nice big window running along the length of the room which means we can now see what the weather is doing rather than just look out into the warehouse... it truly is onwards and upwards for Myakka.

On Wednesday 5th October we even had a little opening ceremony complete with ribbon cutting and a glass of bucks fizz for the whole team.  Alexandra took the whole occasion very seriously and even wore a rather spectacular hat in honour of the occasion (...or perhaps it was just being returned after a recent wedding!).
