Myakka & Perry’s Recycling fund RELATE support for South Somerset

As some of regular readers may know we have been working with the Somerset Community Foundation since 2009. The Somerset Community Foundation works to promote vibrant, inclusive communities in Somerset through developing a culture of local giving and enabling voluntary groups.  It was set up in 2002 to provide and independent funding body to tackle poverty and disadvantages throughout Somerset.

Myakka made its annual donation of £5,000 into the Myakka Grass Root Fund this September. Since then we have been working with the Foundation to find great causes to support. This month through the Foundation we have teamed up with Perry’s Recycling to donate a total £2,000 to provide essential funds to re-establish Relate support in South Somerset.

Relate is the country’s largest provider of relationship support, offering counselling for individuals and couples, family counselling, counselling for children and young people along with sex therapy.

In April 2011, Relate Somerset closed all its branches due to financial problems.  Following talks with Relate head office, Dorset Relate based in Poundbury stepped in to offer services in South Somerset from an outreach base in Yeovil (about 30 miniutes away from us here at Myakka).  To assist in the provision of this service, a grant of £2,000 has now been agreed through Somerset Community Foundation using funds from Perry’s Recycling Fund and the Myakka Fund.

Perry’s Recycling is a long-established family business, operating from three sites across Somerset, specialising in ethical and environmental recycling solutions for businesses and regional councils.  They have been supporting the Foundation since 2010 through their own fund but also through their newspaper recycling scheme at supermarkets across the county. Brian Perry comments ‘This is a great example of what can be achieved for our communities by working together and we are absolutely delighted to be able to support the work of Relate.’

Somerset Community Foundation works to promote vibrant, inclusive communities in Somerset through developing a culture of local giving and enabling voluntary groups.  This award winning charitable operation is the linchpin for funding these grassroots projects – for more information on how you can support your local community or apply for funding for your community project, visit www.somersetcf.org.uk.
