Light up the dark nights

Tuesday, 29 September 2015

With the nights drawing in and the clocks about to change, now is the perfect time to update the lighting in your home. The right lighting can help create the perfect ambience, which is easily achieved through the use of lamps rather than a celling lights. We have a great range of fair trade lighting that looks  as good off as it does when it is lit up.

One of our favourite new additions this autumn is the Rattan Anemone Table Lamp. This interesting lamp has been hand woven from rattan to create a sea anemone shape. When the lamp arrived here at Myakka, it attracted lots attention and everybody wanted to touch it. It looks even better when lit and cast a sparkling effect around your room.

The brand new Branch Floor Lamp is a great looking standard lamp. No two of the lamps are ever the same due to the use of reclaimed tree branches that are used to create the base of the lamp. A natural cotton shade sits on top of branches that have been skilfully arranged to create an attractive and eye catching lamp.

For you bedsides, the new Pair of Oceana Pearl Table Lamps are the perfect solution. The bases are carefully crafted from pieces of mother of pearl coloured shell that have been cleverly arranged in mosaic style pattern on the lamp base. Complete with a light brown coloured cotton shades, this pair of lamps would look great on bedside tables.

Whichever design you prefer for your home, our range of lighting is both unique and beautiful. Designed to fit your home, we have a fantastic range of different size and style lighting to fit your needs perfectly. All our lighting is made with our fair trade partners in Thailand and is wired to UK standards.

Autumnal Owls

Tuesday, 22 September 2015

Elephants have long been the most popular animal here at Myakka, but Owls are on the up and are becoming more and more popular. The Surin Owl Table has long been one of the most popular pieces within the Surin range and this autumn we are welcoming even more wise old owls to the Myakka range.

A new addition to this season is the Tweed Owl Cushions that is available in three coordinating colours. Available in chocolate, maroon and natural colours, these cushions have an appliqued owl on the front designed from a number of different tweeds and felts. These would make a great addition to your sofa or your favourite chair adding a colour and a friendly face.

Another addition to the range this autumn includes the Tweed Owl Door Stop. This cute doorstop is both pretty and practical, with a weighted bottom to hold your door open. The owl is made from different colour tweed materials to create a welcoming looking owl, perfect for any room of your home.

One of our favourite and most popular accessories are the Painted Carved Owls. This set of three owls are a lovely way to add colour and interest to your home. Carved from wood and painted in coordinating muted colours, these wise looking owls would look great in a home office or to add some colour to your living room.

And finally our favourite owl here at Myakka is the Surin Owl Table. We think Caroline’s review sums him up nicely...

‘’A wise decision
I bought this to stand beside my chair, a good place to stand my book, glasses and cup of coffee. The owl is fun, and I have a cushion to match. Nicely made and very solid and stable.’’

Carved from monkey pod wood by skilled artisans in Thailand with a hand waxed finish. This owl has a round table top and is the perfect height for your sofa side, just add a cup of tea and a good book and you have the perfect companion.

So why not introduce a new companion into your home this season?

Elephants Galore!

Wednesday, 2 September 2015

We first introduced our Hathi Cupboard back in 2006 (then named the Elephant Cupboard) and since then the Hathi range has been going from strength to strength, becoming increasingly popular. The elephant family now includes over 12 different furniture designs.

The name Hathi came from the Hindi word for elephant which perfectly combined the elephant carvings and the range being made in northern Rajasthan, India. After the Hathi Cupboard came the Hathi Blanket Box that was introduced in Spring 2010 and is now one of our best sellers.

Every Hathi piece of furniture has hand carved elephant panels that are added to a frame to create a door or drawer front. Each panel has an elephant carving which has been hand carved by skilled artisans in India. This means every piece of Hathi furniture is unique which each carving being slightly different.  There can be anything from two to 16 elephant carvings in a piece of Hathi furniture with the Hathi Linen Press and the Hathi Large Sideboard having 16 elephants each.

The Hathi collection has a traditional Indian style similar to our Thakat collection. With turned legs and bevelled detail, the Hathi collection has been styled based on the original Elephant Cupboard featuring into our Thakat range. Carved and made from solid sheesham wood, the Hathi collection has the same finish as both the Mallani and Thakat collection meaning that the collections can be easily coordinated and look great together.

Keep an eye out this Autumn for a new addition to the Hathi collection…
