Local Community

Thursday, 31 March 2016

As part of our commitment to have minimal effect on the environment we have worked with the Carymoor Trust to help improve our local environment and the environmental education of our local community. Carymoor is based just down the road from Myakka HQ in the pretty Somerset town of Castle Cary.

The Trust carries out pioneering land restoration and habitat creation work on 100 acres of capped landfill. The centre is located working next door to a working active landfill site which provides the perfect contrast of the sustainable environmental projects versus the less sustainable use of landfill.

We have recently donated to the trust to help with their renovations project to restore the long pond and install dipping platforms that will be used during educational visits. Transforming the pond from its current state into vibrant habitat where visitors can pond dip and learn more about local wildlife.

To improve the environment of the pond, it first had to go back to basics so it could be cleared and out and prepared, the before and after pictures look like they are currently the wrong way round, but it has to go back to basics before it can be improved. Work started in early January 2016 and Simon, one of our directors went to visit at the end of the Month to see the work that has been completed.

To continue the work further and to make a real education tool for children for generations, the trust are looking for more donations to help make the long pond a real feature of the nature reserve. To find out more about the project and to learn how you can help, simply click here.

We can't wait to see the final results!

New Recycled Glass Tableware

Thursday, 24 March 2016

This spring we have lots of new additions to our recycled glass collection. This collection is made using waste glass products in both Spain and Mexico where it is transformed into something both practical and beautiful.

The new additions to the range this spring include wine glasses, tumblers, vases and bottles. As this range of glassware has been crafted by hand, each piece is slightly unique. For example, the sets of four Rainbow Hi Ball Glasses have a colourful striped pattern around the middle of each glass, each one of these pattern will vary as they have been created by hand, which adds to the charm of the range. To complete your dinner table there are matching tumblers and wine glasses, which all have the same rainbow stripe design, but are all a little different.

The new additions also include a handy Roman Carafe and Tumbler. The tumbler fits neatly on top of the carafe making it perfect for the guest room or for next your favourite chair. Another favourite from the range is the Recycled Glass Milk Bottle. This litre bottle has a cow pattern in relief on the side of the bottle, perfect as a milk jug for your breakfast table.

The range also includes some colourful Pressed Glass Vases that include a pressed flower pattern. These vases are perfect for a freshly picked flowers from the garden or a bunch of spring time daffodils. This vase is available in green, grey and turquoise and will look great in your home without or without flowers.

Easter Dining

Monday, 21 March 2016

Easter is a great time of year to bring the whole family and many friends together to celebrate with a big Sunday Lunch and too many chocolate eggs! Make sure your dining room is ready for your extra guests with some of our clever dining solutions...

Here at Myakka we recognise the importance of choosing the right dining furniture for you. Dining furniture is often a significant investment and making sure that it is right for you and your family is vital to make sure you get many happy years use from it. So to help with making that decision we have put together a useful guide to our dining tables and chairs.

One of the first steps is to look at the amount of space you have available, remember to factor in the space chairs take up and the fact that people need to get in and out of the chairs and around the table.

Then you need to look at how many people will be sitting around the dining table, for special occasions such as Easter and everyday living, the important thing to remember is that it has to be practical for everyday dining.

Once you have the dimensions and the number of people the table has to sit, then you can start to look at the different styles that are available to you. All of the Mallani dining furniture is made from solid Sheesham wood and is available in sets with dining tables and chairs.  We also have the Stonemill Dining Set which has been crafted from reclaimed pine wood and the Coast Farmhouse Dining Table and four chairs.

If you wanted something quite traditional but have a small space the Mallani Small Dining Table may be perfect. At 90cm wide and 150cm long this table will comfortably sit four people but will easily stretch to six when needed.

If the small dining table sounds perfect for everyday use but you need something bigger from time to time, then the Mallani Extending Dining Table may make the perfect alternative. The central section is the same size as the Mallani Small Dining Table and there are two leaves that that slide into the central section to extend the surface by 90cm making it 240cm long and big enough to sit 6 to 8 very comfortably all the way up to 10+ guests for those special occasions.

If you have a larger room, a big family or lots of guests the Mallani Large Dining Table may be the ideal for you. At 2m long and 1m wide this table is perfect for entertaining. Wide enough to be able to handle all the food and crockery that celebrations bring and long enough to sit 8 people comfortably. This table is perfect for busy, friendly homes.

Whatever size table suits you, the chairs are the next essential requirement. We have a selection of three different style chairs. Our most popular chairs are the Mallani Upholstered Chairs. Finished with a cotton-rich natural colour chair pad these chairs would feel at home with any décor. Both smart and comfortable these chairs are a really popular option.

If you wanted to add your own seat pad then we have three other chairs that may suit. The Delhi Dining Chairs are neat and compact. These are a design classic and will suit any décor perfectly. And new this Spring is the Jasmeen Dining Chair, these chairs have an upholstered seat and the backs of the chairs have the Jasmeen carving detail making them both comfy and pretty.

The Stonemill Dining Set is the perfect alternative if you wanted something in lighter wood. Made from reclaimed pine, this table is full of character and comes with two benches – perfect for the whole family. This set would be perfect for a busy family kitchen and will fit into the family life like it has always been there.

Whatever you choose, all the Myakka dining furniture is classic in design and will last a lifetime. With an occasional wax and polish, the wood will keep giving a natural lustre and shine time and time again. Remember Mallani dining tables are available as sets with the choice of three different chair styles to suit you.

Welcome Jasmeen - Carved Elegance

Tuesday, 8 March 2016

This season we welcome a brand new range to the Myakka family. The Jasmeen collection features a carved design inspired by the Seed of life pattern.  This collection is carved from solid sheesham wood and is exclusive to us here at Myakka.

We wanted to create a collection  that combined all the benefits of our existing sheesham ranges, like the Mallani and Thakat collections, such as solid hardwood, rich grain detailing and a lustrous finish, but with an elegant carved frieze and a softer more feminine look and feel.

The new collection features 12 exclusive furniture designs with more exclusive designs being added in the autumn. The range has a pattern inspired by the seed of life carved in every piece; the pattern is the universally recognised symbol of creation.

Some of our favourite pieces from the new Jasmeen collection include the Jasmeen Hallway Table only £329, Jasmeen Small Cabinet only £199 and the Jasmeen Office Desk only £499.

Take a look at the complete Jasmeen Collection here.
