Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade Fortnight is here! At Myakka, we need no excuse to shout about the benefits of buying fair trade product, especially when it comes to our fair trade products. However, we do love an excuse to celebrate everything fair trade! For this reason, we’ve been supporting Fairtrade Fortnight for the last few years. From hosting a Fairtrade tea party filled with lots of homemade goodies, to eating Fairtrade bananas and swapping thousands of plastic carrier bags for our fair trade jute bags.

Myakka's Fairtrade Fortnight Recipe Book

As the Myakka office as a whole love nothing more than a freshly baked cake or cookie made using fair trade ingredients, we thought we would show our support this year by sharing some of our tried and tested recipes with you. That’s right; we’ve created the very first Myakka recipe book! Made with fair trade ingredients and a whole lot of love, we’ve pulled together some of our very favourite recipes for you to enjoy.

There are many ways you can support Fairtrade when in the kitchen...

Did you know that 1 in 3 bananas bought in the UK is a Fairtrade banana? Not only is eating Fairtrade bananas good for farmers, but it’s good for us, too! Bananas have shown to have health benefits for your heart, muscles, digestive system and eyes. Fairtrade bananas can be purchased from most major supermarkets.

By guaranteeing minimum prices for cocoa farmers, Fairtrade is helping to make the cocoa farming industry much more sustainable. Buying Fairtrade chocolate ensures a better future for these farmers and their families. Fairtrade chocolate is great for baking but is also delicious on its own as a treat. Yum!

Tea & Coffee

When you buy Fairtrade tea & coffee, not only are you helping farmers to build a better quality of life for themselves and their families, but you’re also helping them invest in growing better quality tea leaves and coffee beans, too. You can buy Fairtrade tea & coffee for your home from most major supermarkets. Additionally, if you’re on the go, you can find a list of Fairtrade cafes on the Fairtrade website.

As an office full of sweet-toothed folk, our kitchen is always stocked with Fairtrade sugar. Last year, more than £5million made from the purchase of Fairtrade sugar was given back to sugar cane smallholders. This allowed them to create a better quality of life for themselves and their families and communities, and better quality sugar for us, too!

Finally, if you'd like to learn more about Fairtrade Fortnight and how you can help to support all things Fairtrade, then just pop over to the Fairtrade website.
