We are once again preparing for Fair Trade Fortnight which starts on Monday 25th February and runs  until Sunday 10th March. This year’s theme is ‘to go further for fair trade’ and the aim is to raise awareness of smallholder farmers in parts of the world where fair trade is vital. Over the last few years we have been supporting Fair Trade Fortnight by eating lots of fair trade bananas, swapping plastic carrier bags for fair trade jute bags and holding a fair trade tea party.

This year, throughout the fortnight we will be featuring some of our favourite fair trade and ethical brands on our Facebook and Twitter pages. So to find out who our favourite fair trade friends are make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. We want to spread the fair trade message and introduce you to some of our favourite fair trade friends.  The whole team will be making sure we buy fair trade products such as tea, coffee, chocolate and flowers as well as the more unusual fair trade products such as peanut butter, t-shirts and Easter eggs.

We are also giving awaay a Fairtrade Hamper full of Fairtrade goodies. To enter and for more information please click here.

Half of the world’s hungry are farmers and unable to earn a living from the crops that they grow. Many tea farmers are paid less than 3% of the tea’s retail value and sometimes are paid less the 1%. Supporting fair trade fortnight can help these farmers ensure that they are being paid a fair amount for their crop so they can earn and living and do things like send their children to school.

The Fair Trade Foundation is asking as many supporters as possible to sign their petition asking David Cameron to go further and champion a better deal for smallholder farmers at the next G8 meeting in June. This is a really positive step as it is showing the politicians that as a collective we want change and get a better deal for smallholder farmers. To sign the petition and to find out more about fair trade fortnight simply click here.

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to find out who we are going further with to support fair trade fortnight!
