As anyone who looks at our website or catalogue knows, we here at Myakka LOVE elephants. In fact, we have dedicated a whole range to our favourite animal, the Hathi Collection.

Hathi Collection – what’s in a name?

The name Hathi came from the Hindi word for elephant. Of course, this name perfectly combined the elephant carvings and the fact that the range originates from northern Rajasthan, India. We first introduced our Hathi Cupboard back in 2006 (originally named the Elephant Cupboard). Since then, our Hathi furniture has been going from strength to strength, becoming increasingly popular. The elephant family now includes over 12 different furniture designs. Every Hathi piece of furniture has hand carved elephant panels, which are added to a frame to create a door or drawer front. Each panel has an elephant carving, hand carved by skilled artisans in India. Ultimately, every piece of Hathi furniture is unique with each carving being slightly different.  There can be anything from two to 16 elephant carvings in a piece of Hathi furniture. In fact, the Hathi Large Sideboard alone has a total of 16 hand carved elephants.

An elephant never forgets…to coordinate!

The Hathi Collection has a traditional Indian style similar to our Thakat collection. With turned legs and bevelled detail, the Hathi Collection has been styled based on the original Elephant Cupboard that featured into our Thakat range. Carved and made from solid sheesham wood, the Hathi furniture has the same finish as both the Mallani, Jasmeen and Thakat collections. Therefore, the Hathi Collection easily coordinates with a whole host of Myakka furniture!

World Elephant Day

And finally, if you didn’t love our Hathi furniture enough, we’re donating 10% of sales from elephant products this month to the World Elephant Day Charity!
