Fairtrade Fortnight is quickly approaching and this year’s theme is to put fair trade in your break. This year’s fortnight will run from the 27th February until the 12th March.
Over the last few years, we have been big supporters of Fairtrade Fortnight. In the past, we’ve held Fairtrade tea parties, our big bag swap and eating a lot of fair trade bananas! This year we are getting together and putting Fairtrade into our break.

Why we’re supporting Fairtrade Fortnight

Having the perfect cuppa or a snack is an important part of our daily routine. However, millions of farmers who produce the treats we enjoy during our breaks are struggling to make a living. Regardless of how hard they work to provide the products we depend on, they still aren’t paid what they deserve.

In Kenya’s coffee and tea-growing regions, one in three people lives in poverty. Meanwhile, in Malawi, tea pickers earn less than £1.46 a day. This is not enough to provide decent food, education or healthcare for their families or invest in better farming.

At Myakka, we are careful to use Fairtrade products wherever we can. All the tea, coffee and sugar we have here at the office is Fairtrade. By making small changes like buying Fairtrade tea and coffee we can all help to make big, impactful changes to producers around the world.

So throughout the fortnight (and beyond) make sure you only drink Fairtrade tea & coffee, only add Fairtrade sugar, and make sure your bananas, nuts and any other ingredients are Fairtrade (or produced by local farmers). By making these simple, small changes you will be helping farmers across the world ensure they are able to get the basics they and their families need.

Of course, we ethically source and fairly trade all of our products. Head to our website for fair trade furniture and home accessories inspiration.
