We have been working with the Somerset Community Foundation(SCF) since 2009 making regular donations. The community foundation is then able to use these donations to help support local charities and good causes. The SCF works to promote vibrant, inclusive communities in Somerset through developing a culture of local giving and enabling voluntary groups.  It was set up in 2002 to provide and independent funding body to tackle poverty and disadvantages throughout Somerset.
We have set up a Myakka Grass Root Fund with SCF, this allows us to work with SCF to make sure the any Myakka funding is used to help our local community specifically children and families within the South Somerset area. The local groups that have benefited from the Myakka Grass Root Fund include Relate, a relationship counselling service; Ups and Downs, a support group for children with Down Syndrome and their families; Wincanton Community Venture which works to benefit the people of Wincanton and surrounding area.
Through SCF we are able to help local causes that otherwise would struggle to find funding. Through funding from the SCF, projects that we have helped include helping to fund Relate relationship counselling outreach in our local area, supportive youth groups for children with Down Syndrome and their families, helping towards buying equipment such as clothing for Forest School activities. Through the SCF we are able to help some great smaller projects that might otherwise get overlooked. It is great to be able to support and help our local community.
