This spring we welcomed a new range to the Myakka family, Stonemill. This range is very different from any other collection as it is made from reclaimed pine wood that would otherwise be discarded as waste. The Stonemill collection is made in Vietnam and it is the first time we have worked with supplier based in this part of South East Asia.
After the pine timber is sustainably sourced, it is then kiln dried and treated to ensure its future stability. Once the timber is ready to use, the skilled artisans carefully select each piece to fit the item of furniture they’re making. Each piece of timber is repurposed with care and the wood’s former may be visible in the new design. This ensures each piece of furniture is a unique piece with its own personality and distinctive traits. Once each piece of furniture has been crafted, a stain is selectively applied to create an even finish before being hand waxed to enhance the grain.
As each piece of Stonemill furniture is hand finished from reclaimed wood, there will always be slight variations between pieces. The differences may be nail holes and knots, variations in grain and mineral deposits which all add to the unique character and charm of the collection.
The Stonemill range is then finished with industrial inspired antiqued metal trim to selected pieces such as the Stonemill Cart Coffee Table which has railway inspired wheels. Other pieces which have a strong industrial influence are the Stonemill Twist Stool with a steel base allowing for the height of the stool to be adjusted, and the Stonemill Glazed Dresser which has a metal trim around the doors.
Some of our favourite pieces form the range include the Stonemill Console Table which has a lovely structured supports which add real character to the table. The Stonemill Merchants Chest has six roomy drawers to help you deal with everything from clothing to cutlery.
