The sport of choice here at Myakka is cycling. One of our founders Simon is always on his bike along with Peter and Elaine in accounts and James out in the warehouse. Not only is cycling a great sport (fingers crossed for the Olympics) but it is also a healthy and green mode of transport.

Next week sees the start of Samsung Bike Week which is the biggest nationwide cycling event in the UK. The aim of this event is to encourage us all to join in events and to simply rethink everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient way to get around.

Samsung are running a Hope Relay and for every mile cycled in a cycle week event, Samsung will donate £1 to charity. To be a part of this, all you need to do is go to the Samsung website and follow the instructions to download the Hope Relay app.

There are hundreds of events being run all over the UK from Charity Rides, Dr Bike/ Cycle Safety Checks, Commuter challenges, guided rides and time trials. Simply visit the Bike Week website to find your local event.

The Bike Week website also includes a great blog all about cycling and the different events being held. It is a great way to learn more about bike week and cycling. Whilst you are there you can also sign up to a Bike Week newsletter and use the Cycling Calculator to work out how many calories your cycle ride had burnt off or how much cycling could save you on your daily commute.

Why not check out the website to find your local event or to find out how cycling could make you fitter, happier and healthier!
