With New Year’s ‘healthy eating’ Resolutions in mind, we at Myakka are trying our best to limit our consumption of the (delicious) white bread sandwiches and choccie bars on the sandwich van which appears every day at Myakka HQ.

We’ve invested in some packed lunch boxes, and we are TRYING to bring in ‘left-overs’ from last night to ensure our healthy communal lunchtime regime continues… not always easy. Anyway, we were having a chat with one of our Somerset neighbours, Christina Baskerville, (the ‘Queen of Beans’ maestro behind the award-winning Easy Bean) about trying out some of her delicious and ethical ready prepared meals.

Christina thought you may like to know a bit more about her Easy Bean company which is just down the road from Myakka, in a converted farm building near Castle Cary in Somerset.

Christina says: “Our Easy Bean pots have a distinctive home-made quality and they are low in fat, high in fibre, low salt and all gluten free. Each pot also provides two to three portions of the five-a-day fruit and vegetables requirement.”

A farmer’s daughter, Christina started up five years ago creating recipes from around the world for the original one pot meal range. All of their food is hand prepared and contains only natural ingredients. (And of course every pot contains beans).  Christina worked in different continents helping farmers grow the best possible bean crops. And we are delighted for Christina as Easy Bean pots can now be found at Waitrose, Ocado, Booths and many local Somerset foodie haunts. Their range includes Spanish Puchero, Moroccan Tagine, African Palava,  French Cuisinées, Indian Sambar Dhal, New Mexican Chilli and seasonal specialities. They use local Somerset ingredients whenever they can and three of the pots are Fairtrade Foundation certified.
